The Meadfield Parish Council has voted to approve a new affordable housing development comprising 40 units on the northern edge of the village. The decision was reached at the monthly meeting held on 12 October, with councillors citing the need to address local housing shortages for young families and key workers.

The scheme, proposed by a local housing association in partnership with the district authority, will include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, with 60 percent designated for social rent and the remainder for shared ownership. The site spans 2.8 hectares of former agricultural land and incorporates green buffers, a small play area and sustainable drainage systems. Councillors noted that the design meets national space standards and includes energy-efficient features such as solar panels and heat pumps. The vote passed 8-1, with one abstention.
